Do Fishing Rod Carriers Fit Most Roof Racks?
Yes—but compatibility depends primarily on how the rod carrier attaches to your crossbars.
Most vehicle rack systems fall into a few general categories:

- Round crossbars
- Square crossbars
- Oversized crossbars and load bars
- Truck-bed and topper racks

Here's how to decide which makes sense for your setup.
CRC System: Standard & XL Quick Clamp Mounts
The Trxstle CRC System is our purpose-built fly rod carrier, and its Quick Clamp mounting system was designed around one idea:
Make the carrier easy to put on and take off.
CRC Quick Clamps wrap around the crossbar and secure the carrier without requiring a T-track channel.
They are available in two sizes.
Standard Quick Clamp Mounts
Standard Mounts work with many common factory crossbars, including a wide range of smaller factory, round, square, and aero-style bars.
For many factory roof racks, this is the place to start.
XL Quick Clamp Mounts
XL Mounts provide additional clearance for larger crossbars.
They're designed for oversized aero bars, larger factory crossbars, ladder racks, truck racks, and other applications where the Standard Mount doesn't provide enough clearance.
Between the Standard and XL Quick Clamp options, the CRC can accommodate virtually every common crossbar size and shape.
And because the clamps secure around the crossbar, your rack doesn't need a T-track.
How Do I Know Which CRC Mount Size I Need?
Don't guess.

ARC System: Heavy-Duty Universal Locking Mounts
The ARC System is a much larger rod carrier engineered to transport virtually every style of fishing rod—from spinning and baitcasting setups to fly, centerpin, surf, and spey rods.
Because of its size and capacity, the ARC uses its own heavy-duty mounting system.
ARC Universal Locking Mounts
The standard ARC mounts clamp around the crossbar and are designed to accommodate an extremely broad range of crossbar shapes and sizes.
That includes:
- Round bars
- Square bars
- Aero crossbars
- Factory crossbars
- Larger aftermarket bars
- Truck and bed-rack crossbars
The mounts accommodate crossbars up to approximately 5 inches wide and 2.5 inches thick, as well as bars as thin as approximately 3/4 inch.
They also feature rubberized contact surfaces and an all-metal locking system, helping secure the carrier to the vehicle while protecting the rack surface.
For most ARC installations, these universal locking mounts provide the simplest solution:
Clamp them around your existing crossbars and go.
Have T-Track or T-Slot Crossbars? There's Another Option.
T-track and T-slot channels have become increasingly common on premium aftermarket roof racks, truck-bed racks, platform systems, and load bars.
Instead of wrapping a mount around the entire crossbar, a T-track mounting system connects directly into the channel built into the rack.
For anglers with compatible racks, this can create an extremely clean and low-profile installation.

Universal T-Track Mounts: One Mount for Every Trxstle Rod Carrier
Unlike the CRC Quick Clamps and ARC Universal Locking Mounts, which are specific to their respective carriers, the Universal T-Track Mounts work with the entire Trxstle rod carrier lineup.
That means they're compatible with:
- CRC System Fly Rod Carriers
- CRC Euro Fly Rod Carriers
- ARC Adjustable Rod Carriers
The mounts attach directly to virtually any compatible T-track or T-slot-equipped crossbar and sit just 1.15 inches above the crossbar, making them our lowest-profile mounting option.
They're constructed from stainless steel, include rubber contact points, and use a locking metal shroud and metal lock core to conceal and secure the mounting hardware.
And yes—all mounting hardware is provided.
Each T-Track Mounting Kit includes the hardware needed to accommodate the majority of common T-track systems, including both M6 and M8 stainless hardware.
So if you already have T-track-equipped crossbars, you don't need to start piecing together a mounting system yourself.
T-Track Mounts vs. Clamp-On Mounts: Which Is Better?
Neither system is universally "better." It depends on your rack and how you use your rod carrier.
Clamp-around mounts are a great choice when you have traditional crossbars without a T-track. They also allow you to mount directly around the bar without relying on an integrated accessory channel.
T-track mounts are ideal when your rack already has a compatible T-slot and you want a particularly clean, low-profile installation.
For CRC owners, that means choosing between the Standard or XL Quick Clamps and the Universal T-Track Mounts.
For ARC owners, it means choosing between the heavy-duty Universal Locking Mounts and Universal T-Track Mounts.
The important part is that you aren't locked into one mounting approach simply because of the rod carrier you choose.
Will a Fishing Rod Carrier Fit Factory Crossbars?
In many cases, yes.
Factory crossbars vary significantly between vehicle manufacturers and even between different models from the same manufacturer.
Some are relatively small aero bars. Others are thick or unusually shaped. Increasingly, factory and aftermarket systems may also incorporate T-slots.
That's why it's more useful to identify your crossbar dimensions and design than simply your vehicle's make and model.
For the CRC System, our Standard and XL Quick Clamps cover a broad range of factory crossbars.
For the ARC System, its heavy-duty Universal Locking Mounts are designed around an even broader range of bar dimensions.
And if your factory or aftermarket bars incorporate compatible T-tracks, our Universal T-Track Mounts provide another option for either carrier.
Can You Mount a Fishing Rod Carrier to Aero Crossbars?
Yes.
Aero crossbars are extremely common on modern vehicles and aftermarket roof racks.
Depending on their dimensions, a CRC can typically use either the Standard or XL Quick Clamp Mounts, while the ARC's Universal Locking Mounts are designed to accommodate a wide range of aero profiles.
If your aero crossbars also include an integrated T-track, you may instead be able to use the Universal T-Track Mounting Kit with either the CRC or ARC.
Can You Put a Fishing Rod Carrier on a Truck?
Absolutely.
A rooftop rod carrier doesn't necessarily have to live on the roof.
Truck-bed racks, topper racks, load bars, and other crossbar systems can all provide mounting locations for a fishing rod carrier.
This is where checking your actual rack dimensions becomes particularly important, since truck racks and load bars are often larger than typical factory vehicle crossbars.
The CRC's XL Quick Clamps are designed for larger mounting applications, while the ARC's heavy-duty Universal Locking Mounts accommodate a broad range of larger crossbars.
And many modern truck rack systems incorporate T-slots, making the Universal T-Track Mounts another strong option.
What About Yakima, Thule, Rhino-Rack and Other Aftermarket Crossbars?
Brand alone doesn't determine compatibility.
Companies such as Yakima, Thule, Rhino-Rack and other rack manufacturers produce multiple styles of crossbars with different dimensions, profiles, and mounting channels.
Rather than assuming every crossbar from a particular manufacturer is identical, identify the specific rack model you're using.
Then determine:
- The width and thickness of the crossbar.
- Whether the bar has a T-track/T-slot.
- The available space between the crossbar and vehicle roof.
- The distance between your front and rear crossbars.

For ARC owners, compare your crossbar dimensions against the ARC mount specifications.
If your crossbars have compatible T-track channels, the Universal T-Track Mounting Kit may simplify the decision considerably.
Crossbar Spacing Matters, Too
Mount compatibility isn't the only measurement to check.
You also need enough distance between your front and rear crossbars to properly support the carrier.
Both the CRC and ARC Systems recommend a minimum crossbar spread of approximately 32 inches.
This is especially important when working with short vehicle roofs, truck racks, bed racks, toppers, or other custom configurations.
Before purchasing any rooftop fishing rod carrier, check both:
Will the mounts fit my bars?
and
Are my crossbars positioned far enough apart?
Those are two different fitment questions.
One More Advantage of an Adjustable Fishing Rod Carrier
Crossbar compatibility solves one part of vehicle fitment.
Carrier length solves another.
A fixed-length fishing rod carrier stays the same length whether it's mounted to a full-size pickup or a compact crossover.
