The Making of Our Featherweight Sun Hoodies
If you’ve followed Trxstle for a while, you know we don’t rush products.
Our Featherweight Sun Hoodies weren’t something we decided to add to the catalog overnight. They’ve been in development for years — tested on waterways across the country, worn through guide seasons, packed into boat bags, hiked into alpine lakes, and washed more times than we can count.
We didn’t start with a blank shirt and a logo.
These were built from the fabric up.

Why We Set Out to Build Our Own Sun Hoodie
There are plenty of fishing sun shirts out there.
Some are too heavy. Some trap heat. Others trap odor. Some lose their shape after a season. Others technically offer sun protection, but feel like wearing a damp towel halfway through a hot day on the water. Most are pretty plain and boring.
If you spend enough time outside, you start to notice those things.
The goal wasn’t just to make another sun hoodie. It was to build one that actually performs the way anglers need it to — lightweight, breathable, durable, and comfortable enough to wear from the first cast to the last. But we’ll admit it: we also wanted them to look good — designs that feel like Trxstle and work just as well at the brewery after the float as they do on the river.
That meant starting where performance actually begins: the fabric.

Years of Testing to Get the Fabric Right
Most apparel projects start with a design.
This one started with materials.
For years we tested different fabric blends, weights, and stretch profiles trying to find the right balance. The result is the Featherweight performance fabric used in our sun hoodies today — an 88% polyester / 12% spandex blend with UPF 30+ sun protection.
The goal was simple: find a material that feels light and cool in the heat, but still holds up to real use season after season.
At just 5.3 ounces, the finished fabric is incredibly lightweight, but it doesn’t feel flimsy. It stretches naturally while casting or rowing, manages moisture efficiently, dries quickly, and resists odor during long days outside.
The fabric design actually started with high-performance rash guards used in combat sports — gear built to handle constant friction, sweat, stretching, and serious abuse without breaking down. From that performance baseline, we began refining it for long days outside: reducing weight, softening the feel, and developing a more breathable, flowing fabric blend. The final material keeps that same durability and stretch, while adding UPF 30+ sun protection and all-day comfort for time on the water.

Designed From Every Stitch
Once the fabric was dialed, the rest of the hoodie was built around how anglers actually move and fish.
Thumb holes extend sun protection down over the hands and wrists — an area that tends to take the most sun over a long day on the water.
The hood is intentionally oversized so it fits comfortably over a hat, with a front button clasp that can be used for additional face coverage or wind protection when conditions change.
Raglan sleeves allow for full casting motion without restriction, and even the small details matter — like the placement of the pinch tag so it won’t snag a fly line when the wind picks up.
None of these details are accidental. They come from spending enough time outdoors to know where most shirts fall short.

Tested by Guides Before It Reaches Production
Like all Trxstle gear, these sun hoodies are worn hard before they ever make it into production.
Our team of guides and outdoor professionals spend months wearing prototypes in real conditions — rowing, hiking, casting, and fishing through full seasons — long before the designs ever reach the website.
If something doesn’t hold up, it gets adjusted.
Only the versions that prove themselves make the cut.

The Featherweight Lineup
This year’s lineup includes several new designs built on the same performance platform:
- Arrowhead Featherweight Sun Hoodie
- Tumbleweed Brown Trout Featherweight Sun Hoodie
- Basswater Featherweight Sun Hoodie
-
Knotwise Featherweight Sun Hoodie
- The OG Sage Green Bucking Brown Featherweight Sun Hoodie
Each design carries its own character, but underneath the artwork is the same performance-driven construction — lightweight, breathable fishing sun hoodies built for long days outside.

Built for Long Days Outside
When we say Featherweight, we mean it.
These hoodies are designed to stay cool in the heat, move naturally with you, and provide reliable sun protection without feeling heavy or restrictive. They’re moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and built to resist odor even after repeated use.
The result is a lightweight sun hoodie you can wear all day — whether you're drifting a river, hiking into a lake, out on the salt flats, or simply spending more time outdoors under the sun.
Because good gear shouldn’t just look the part. It should earn its place in your rotation season after season.
Born in the West. Fished all over.
